Having Your Cake & Eating The Fuck Out Of It Too…

Hello & welcome!

My name is Molly and I am a 26 year old Phd student focusing on humanistic psychology and transformative social change. In association with this, I have always loved and longed to travel. I have always been curious and interested in different people, places, and things. While I have not always been able to indulge this passion, I have always made up for it through spending the time to research and organize the future trips I will be taking.

I completed undergrad, then started my Master’s program, and travel still seemed off in the distance. However, in the summer of 2013 I was presented with the opportunity to visit Singapore as part of a survey project studying leadership. In order to work on this project, I took the leadership course that was the subject of study and taking place during this two week timeframe in Singapore.

I worked extremely hard to make this happen, and it became my in to an entirely new world. From the course I gained a new empowered motivation that inspired me to begin creating my life as I wanted it to be and from the survey project I made some significant connections with the individuals involved in running the program.

From here I was able to extend my work with the survey over another 4 courses, traveling to Bermuda, Mexico, South Dakota, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Following this, I was able to secure a job volunteering with the production company putting on the course and have an ongoing position to attend all courses. During this time I simply worked my ass off to prove myself and maximize the opportunities I was given. En-route to these destinations for work I have also visited Iceland, London, Paris, Santorini, Vienna, and Amsterdam.

As a result, what I took away from this first experience in Singapore was the foolishness of wasting my time waiting for “later” when things were just right. I was a successful, able bodied, and resourceful individual and I had the power to create the life of travel I truly wanted, just like everyone has the ability to! I simply had to gain the awareness of this power and dedicate myself to putting it into practice.

The element that made this process a little more challenging was the fact that I was (and still am) in school. The fact that made this a little bit more manageable is that I attend a hybrid program in which I go to school for 15 out of 16 weeks per semester. So as long as I there is internet access and a computer, I am good to go :p

Therefore, in this unique position, I have learned a lot of things I wish I would have known from the start. Things that seem like common sense once you know them, but were simply overlooked. I think some… maybe even all, of this information is pretty helpful and could come in handy for someone else. So, I started this blog to be the space for sharing that information and chronicling the many things I find throughout my life that relate to travel.

My self proclaimed goal is to define my own path to success and to find the most creative ways to achieve the things I want in my life. I want to get the most out of life and I believe so many more of us can achieve this as well. Hopefully this will support anyone interested in achieving these goals as well.

Remember to work smarter, not harder!

Enjoy and happy travels ❤
