In light of the travel I have accomplished lately, my parents have asked how I have managed to do all of this and especially do it by myself. They have told me that at my age they were no where near such things and that even the thought of it would have been intimidating.
While I would like to think of myself as this amazingly talented and fearless person -which, to be fair, in some ways I am …;P – the more I thought about it, the more I realized that when my parents were my age they didn’t have computers, apps, or the internet..they didn’t even have cell phones! haha And that makes a pretty big fucking difference…
In the time I have been using technology such as this, it has already begun to permeate every day reality so much it has become almost invisible to our conscious thoughts. Like the silent workings of subconscious coloring and shaping our experiences and concepts of reality.
This realization has caused me to more directly consider the tools I have been using and in what ways they have supported me in achieving the travel goals I have set for myself.
What follows I have featured one of the most significant tools I have come to use that I feel has supported me the most in the important process of planning a full and successful adventure.
Enjoy 😉
This is my favorite tool by far. If you ask many of my friends, they will tell you the same thing… probably followed by them reciting the number of times I have tried to get them to use it haha But, despite all that, I really do think Evernote is the best!

I guess for me the love of Evernote probably comes from my previous love of writing in notebooks. However, once the impracticality of this set in- seeing how much I misplace and forget things – I began to embrace keeping all of my notes in an online system.
So, in order to do this I needed to find the right online platform. After searching for a while, trying different sites etc, I landed on Evernote. I had the app for months, maybe even a year, before I really got into it and stared using it regularly. Ultimately, it was the new demands of travel planning that sparked the increase in use and my newfound love.
With all of the various destinations, events, and information to manage when planning a trip, the notebook style of Evernote makes it easy to keep everything straight.
You can even tag notes – for searching and easy access, add media content – like links, videos, files, and documents straight from Google drive, and share notebooks with friends to collaborate on projects.
Below are examples of how I have my Evernote set up:

This first image shows the window listing the overall notebooks I have created, with the travel category open to show all of the notebooks specific to travel that I have established. Within each of these are notes all referring to the focus of that specific notebook. For example, all of the notes in the ‘2017 Travels’ notebook refer to details regarding the travel I am planning on completing this year.
This is a good place to start because it gives me an ovierview and allows me to set intentions like planting a seed. Then the work I continue to do researching and planning these events is like the water and sunlight that make it come to life. I keep all of this here and as the plans progress I can make more and more specific notes within this notebook such as one focused on ‘Amsterdam’.

This 2nd image shows what notes I specifically have in my ‘2017 travels’ notebook. I have it broken down into months to better see what Ill be doing when and this helps me keep track of all the information I find when searching, planning, and storing information as I go.
Instead of being all over the place, in various different apps and pieces of paper, I have one central place I use and that means every time I am looking for something… I actually know where it is.
It also means that all of the time I spend searching for flights, things to do, city or travel information, and playing with different ideas for itineraries doesn’t go to waste because here I have as much space as I want to write it all down. Then when I think of something I want to reference back to I don’t have spend time doing the same work over again!
I think this space also plays a significant part in the success of my travels because I use it to be creative and make countless notes detailing different possibilities and options. There are so many ways to live in life, and there are equally as many ways to travel. When I am able to get these ideas out in front of me it allows a new access to them that has allowed me to find unique, special, fun, and inexpensive ways to travel.
Anyway, I know at this point I am a total Evernote nerd…and I can accept that haha I know it might not be for everyone but it is the tool I have found that has really truly helped me keep my life in order and lead to the fulfillment of my goals and dreams of travel so maybe it might work for you too 🙂
