Recently, I had the opportunity to stop in Amsterdam for a few days on the way back from the Middle East. The experience I had there was one of the best of my life and I came back with a long list of things I want to do the next time I visit…or more like when I live there ;p

Shopping:
Lucie’s Amsterdam – For those who love handmade jewelry and other trinkets, check out Lucie’s Amsterdam. You will be amazed by the bright colors and designs inside the store. It is a small paradise. Joyful colors, patterns and designs transform the small store into a fairyland. You can find colorful bracelets and necklaces with metallic details, and each item of jewelry is attached to a beautifully designed card. Lucie’s Amsterdam offers a wide variety of handmade items for those who like to impress with their style and give unique gifts.
The 9 Streets (De 9 Straatjes) – Just over the Singel canal from Spui is an area of the city commonly referred to as the ‘Soho of Amsterdam’ – The 9 Streets. Comprising (you guessed it) nine streets, on them you can find a host of specialist shops selling handmade jewellery, vintage clothing, authentic Dutch cheese, designer trainers and more. http://www.theninestreets.com/
Eat & Drink:
Cafe in Vondel park http://www.blauwetheehuis.nl/
Try:
Bitterballen
Stroopwafels
Mustard soup
Jenever & drop (Drink)
Elmar – It’s a little out of the way, but Elmar has long been a favorite of mine – mostly for owner-chef Elmar Gerekink’s earthy and imaginative cuisine (pumpkin cake stuffed with goat cheese and Granny Smith apples; smoked pigeon with a chocolate-nut crumble). But I also admire the way that all the servers know the ins and outs of the wine list (really know, rather than just mouth adjectives), and can talk in depth about the menu. Fish here is as direct from the boat as you can get in Amsterdam, and there’s a wide range of really good wines by the glass.
Van Woustraat 110, 107 LS, De Pijp
Set-price menus from €27.50 (two courses) for lunch, €32.50 for dinner Tue-Sat, noon-3pm, 6pm-10pm
Coffee & Coconuts – is definitely one of Amsterdam’s must-visit cafés. The building used to ‘host’ the former Ceintuur Theater and has been converted into a cozy coffee place offering quality coffee and homemade food in a funky environment. It is the perfect place for meeting friends and colleagues or even studying. The apple & amarene cherry crumble and the hot choco are among our suggestions from the ‘rich’ menu. Coffee & Coconuts is located in Ceintuurbaan and is easily accessible for anyone that wants to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, a nice lunch. or a drink.
Beer Factory -Place that has beer taps right at the table http://www.bierfabriek.com/
Visit the Bluebird Coffee Shop The Bluebird is a far cry from many of the iconic coffee shops that pepper the streets in Amsterdam. Find a comfy spot with friends or a solitary window seat and experience Amsterdam’s famous cannabis culture. The Bluebird is the perfect spot for someone eager to try a joint for the first time or looking to get away from many of the more touristy hotspots near the city center. With a wide selection of cannabis strains, look to the staff to provide some helpful direction in deciding “what” and “how to” at this establishment.Bluebird, Sint Antoniesbreestraat 71, Amsterdam, Netherlands, +31 20-622-5232
The Wine Cellar – Taste Argentinian wine under Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Kerk at The Wine Cellar. This cozy location is located below ground at the side of the historic church. To get inside you have to go through a cookie shop and down a spiral staircase. Make a reservation if you’d like to sip delicious wines with your friends in this unique location.
Get A drink At Café Sound Garden Take some rest and relaxation at this alternative pub located right on the edge of the canals. Boasting great views of the city during the day (and even better ones on the terrace at night), Café Sound Garden is known for drawing alternative crowds made up of locals, tourists, and ex-pats alike. Look for the discounted beer specials and the live al fresco music spaces, a perfect combination to wrap up a long day walking the city.
