Fashion Friday

For me, shoes have always been the most important.. and the most challenging, piece of ones traveling experience. This is largely due to the amount of walking that is involved with visiting new cities and seeing the sites. If this vital task is not successfully met, the consequences can be dire! And, no one wants to be compromised when trying to be present to their new environment. Because your feet are what work the hardest to carry you around the world, they deserve a quality pair of shoes to help get it done.

Some of the most fundamental requirements a good pair of shoes has for me includes:

-A comfortable sole. Walking for long periods of time, this will come in handy keeping your feet more comfortable and contributing to your stamina in the day.

-A higher top for supporting the ankle. This is helpful for all the different terrain you can cover from cobblestone to sand. A twisted ankle can stop you cold, not to mention the pain. Best to avoid altogether and help yourself out from the start.

-An appropriate size and width. I have wide feet and this often leads to blisters. For me this is enemy number one when traveling and I make extra sure to wear the shoes I am taking before hand so ensure I know they are right. Its not great to break in a brand new pair during your travels.

-A compact size. While I am always tempted to take a pair of boots, often the space they take up is too costly. Instead it is more effective to have pairs of shoes that can be packed away easily and save on room so you can fit more of the other things you want to take.

-A versatile and fabulous style. When I travel, I focus on embodying the greatest version of myself and I always bring my favorite clothes to look my best. This can be challenging to pair with the best pair of hiking boots or Nikes and I want something a little more every day instead and something that can go with pretty much everything I am going to be wearing.

It is here I come to the pair of shoes featured in this post.

Since I have found Dansko, I have been a much happier person and my travels have significantly benefited from the quality of these shoes.

The specific shoes I base this on have carried me across 6 countries over a month long period of time, including some 10 miles days.

This is the Lucille in Black Nubuck Leather $180

This shoe not only meets all of the size and design requirements but it really looks nice too. It has a nice suede type of feel and the neutral black color goes with everything, including blending right into my black tights that I often wear in the winter. It even has some hight to it, which I really like. Even just this little bit makes me pay more attention to my posture and feel more confident and stylish walking down the street.

When wearing these out in the world, they provided so much support I was able to walk several miles daily. I never had any blisters or issues arise when wearing these and I couldn’t have been happier about it 😀

At this point I have worn these shoes on the pavement of 7 different countries, the beach, the mud, in the rain. They are still comfortable and they are still lookin pretty damn good.

While these shoes cost more than I would like to spend, one thing I have learned about investing more money into an item such as this often means the quality is better and the customer satisfaction is improved. This happened for me when, in the summer, I had my first pair which were an amazing pair of sandals that developed a loud squeak. After they sent me another pair and the same things happened, they just gave me a choice of any pair off the website for free! Not only did I get that pair, but then I bought another..actually the ones I’m talking about here :p

Overall, I am still going strong with these shoes and I will continue to buy my shoes from Dansko. And, while these are not the sexiest shoes in the world, I am not willing to sacrifice comfort and ability for looks. But, I like to find a balance when I can and I think that is accomplished here. For those who feel the same I would more than strongly recommend these shoes!
